Prime Day is likely your last chance to get a deal on a grill in time for peak barbecue season. Amazon/Business Insider

Grilling has been on my mind a lot lately. Maybe it's because my best friend just premiered her grilling TV show (guest starring yours truly), or maybe it's just summer getting into full swing, but I've been feeling called to the grill a lot recently.

I spent hours assembling, cooking on, and cleaning grills for our guide to the best gas grills. While you can successfully grill on nearly anything that holds a flame (seriously, you can get a disposable grill for about $10), you should expect to invest if you want a grill that will last more than a few seasons. Fortunately, Prime Day is offering some great opportunities to save hundreds of dollars on quality grills. Today is the last day of the sale, so you'll want to act fast — grills probably won't go on supersale again until barbecue season is long over.

Right now I'm seeing really stellar discounts on Traeger grills. The Traeger Ironwood — which was a top pick in our guide to the best Traeger grills for several years — is on sale for $360 off. For a cheaper and more portable option, the Traeger Tailgater is $110 off, bringing the price down to under $400.

If you have a natural gas hookup, a version of my favorite gas grill of all time, the Weber E-310 is on sale for $225 off. Just keep in mind that you can't use propane with this version; it's for natural gas only. For more great deals on the final day of the sale, be sure to check out our Prime Day deals hub.

Prime Day grill FAQs

What kind of grill should I buy?

Every type of grill has its benefits and drawbacks. Here's an overview of which type of grill is best for which type of cook:

Gas grills: Arguably the most popular grill type, gas grills are easy to use and require minimal cleanup. You'll get great char but only moderate grilled flavor.

Charcoal grills: Since you're cooking over wood coals, charcoal produces the most authentic "barbecue" flavor. However, cooking with charcoal is less precise than cooking with gas and requires more time and cleanup. This category also includes charcoal smokers, which are essentially charcoal grills with a larger barrel or an offset smoke box.

Pellet grills: Pellet grills like those made by Traeger have become increasingly popular. They're easy to use and offer good smoke flavor and great temperature control. However, they rely on electricity and, as a result, aren't the best at searing.

Flat top grills: Flat top grills like those made by Blackstone are also very popular. They are essentially large, gas-powered cooktops similar to those you find in restaurant kitchens. They're great for searing or cooking items that would normally drop through a grill grate — like fried rice, cut vegetables, and eggs — but they don't offer any wood flavor.
